FiiO M25 – Flagship AKM Sound in a Pocketable Player

The FiiO M25 is the successor to the M15S and puts AKM's top-tier DAC architecture into a 318 g aluminium player. A dedicated AK4191EQ digital filter feeds two AK4499EX DAC chips, so digital processing and analogue conversion run on separate silicon. Up to 1,700 mW per channel from the 4.4 mm balanced output, a Snapdragon-class QCS6490 platform and FiiO's Desktop Mode make it a player you can carry all day and plug into a desk setup at night. At Soundium we see the M25 as the sweet spot of FiiO's range: most of the flagship sound, in a body that still fits a jacket pocket.

Key Features

• AKM flagship DAC chain: AK4191EQ digital filter with dual AK4499EX DACs, plus four AKM-exclusive sound profiles
• Serious output power: up to 1,700 mW + 1,700 mW at 32 Ω from the 4.4 mm balanced output in Super High Gain mode (with a fast charger connected)
• Low-jitter digital stage: custom FPGA, femtosecond crystal oscillators and an XMOS XU316 USB controller
• Fast Android platform: Qualcomm QCS6490 with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, plus microSD up to 2 TB
• 5.5-inch 1080 × 2160 display: fully laminated screen with gesture and button navigation
• Desktop Mode: runs from external power via a dedicated POWER IN port, protecting the 6,500 mAh battery during desk listening
• 31-band PEQ and AUTO EQ: fine-tune your headphones or load a ready-made curve and share EQ online
• Wireless in both directions: Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz with AirPlay, Bluetooth 5.2 transmit with LDAC, aptX Adaptive and LHDC, and LDAC Bluetooth receive

Customer Benefits

The M25 removes the usual compromise between a pocket player and a desktop source. Low gain and sub-2 µV noise keep sensitive IEMs silent, while Super High Gain drives full-size planar and high-impedance headphones without an external amp. Android mode handles streaming apps, Pure Music mode strips the system back for local files, and USB DAC mode turns it into a high-end DAC for your computer. Line and coaxial outputs let it feed a hi-fi system as well.

Use Cases / Ideal For

Listeners stepping up from a phone or an entry-level DAP who want flagship AKM sound, IEM users who also own demanding full-size headphones, and anyone who wants one device to serve as a portable player, a streaming source and a desktop USB DAC.

Compatibility

Works with IEMs and headphones from 8 to 350 Ω via the 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs. Connects to Bluetooth headphones and speakers, AirPlay over Wi-Fi, and computers as a USB DAC. Line and coaxial outputs connect to amplifiers and external DACs.

Pros & Cons

✅ Pros:

• Flagship AKM DAC chain with a clean, low-noise output
• Enough balanced power for most full-size headphones
• Desktop Mode and dedicated power port for long desk sessions
• Fast Android platform with Wi-Fi, AirPlay and LDAC

⚠️ Cons:

• Full 1,700 mW output needs a fast charger connected
• No 6.35 mm output, unlike the larger M27
